A strong social media profile can open the doors to future employments
If you have a LinkedIn profile which you tend to update on a regularly basis, it won't be rare to see recruiters contacting you in order to learn more about you and invite you for an interview.
Of course, as persons and humans like to share things, photos and stuff not directly related to ourselves, personalities and attributes. Maintaining a proper level between seriousness and fun is appropriate as recruiters not only see the good stuff but also the "bad" ones.
It is also common for some companies to try to look and control your social media activities so, make sure before you take on the new job, that if the company is social media savy that they realise that you’ve already established yourself a presence, they may try to restrict you from using company branding or communications with company clients.
As in many other situations, there are pros and cons but a strong social media presence / profile is highly advisable.
